And so, the month of March is coming to an end. I wish I could press pause on time and bask in these beautiful moments and profound truths for a little while longer, but I know that if I did that, I would stay here forever. I am so very thankful, however, that every day ahead of me is another opportunity to dig deeper into the doctrines of Scripture. Now for the somber topic of this week’s blog entry. I want to forewarn you that this post will have a different tone to it because my previous posts have focused on the theological foundation of the way we live, and this will deal in the political side of this subject. I passionately believe that our theology affects our politics, and I am excited to show you the connection between the two as it relates to our identity.
It does not take a high IQ to deduce that we as a people are incredibly lost when it comes to the essence of what it is to be a man or a woman, but who or what is to blame for this bewilderment? I am not going to claim I have all the answers to this question, but there is one obvious ideology that can take a large portion of the responsibility for this intellectual backsliding, and that is secularism. Secularism, simply put, is the divorce of faith from everyday life, and when we give up our Christianity, we give up the foundation of everything we know and live by. As Pat Buchanan says in his book, Death of the West, “With the de-Christianization of America has come the overthrow of the old moral order based on Judeo-Christian teachings and the establishment of the new moral order of the Humanist Manifesto.” (189). Part of that old moral order that was discarded was the ordering of our roles as men and women, and we have reaped the consequences of that ten-fold.
In the name of liberation, the secularists fought for the abandonment of the Christian and scientific message that said there are differences between the sexes. From that came the LGBTQ movement that set about trying to prove that the differences didn’t exist, making the claim that they were only “social constructs” and could be done away with by physical mutilation. “Did it work?” you may ask, and the resounding answer to that is no, and the secularists can now add the ruin of young people’s lives to their history of achievements. Just to be clear, this is not to say God cannot redeem your life and save you if you are someone who was deceived into adopting that viewpoint and even acting on it. I want to tell you right now, if you’re someone who has been wrecked by the LGBTQ world, God can heal you and bring you to Himself if you repent from those sins and turn to Him for salvation. There is hope for you in Christ, because “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.” (Eph. 1:7).
Another one of the consequences of this radical departure from God’s design for mankind is an unhappiness and lack of fulfillment as people. Despite the loud declarations made by outspoken advocates for “equality”, men are statistically proven to be happiest when fulfilling their God-given roles and embracing their masculinity by being strong leaders and protectors of those around them, by being husbands and fathers. Women are, as controversial as this statement is, happier when able to marry and raise a family with a godly man than they are when they pursue ambition and a career. I am not saying they can’t be happy doing those things. As someone who is unmarried myself and is pursuing my dreams in terms of the job I have, I do most certainly get joy in glorifying God with my career decisions. However, it can be seen all over the world that the roles of wife and mother are more fulfilling than selfish ambition.
So how do we reverse this current trajectory of our culture? There is only one answer and His name is Christ. Only by repenting and turning to Christ can we redeem our corrupt society. Once we have done so, we can begin to rebuild our foundation on what it was when our nation was born, which was Christianity and the truth of Scripture. Men and women will be able to embrace the sex God gave them and see the beauty of the way God designed them to fit into His kingdom. And our nation will no longer see faith and every-day life, politics, business, relationships, as divorced from each other but unbreakably connected, because God is the creator of this world and only through obedience to Him and study of His divine Word can we live with unshakeable joy and purpose. “Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” (1 Cor. 10:31).
